Bugatti: mythical, powerful and rare cars

If there is a car brand whose mere mention evokes mythical models, impressive performance and meticulous aesthetics, it is Bugatti. Even if its creator, Ettore Bugatti, is Italian, he is a French car manufacturer. Bugatti is famous throughout the world for the excellence of its vehicles, a number of which have shone in competition. Today, Bugatti still belongs to the very private circle of high-end manufacturers. For a lover of beautiful cars, it is a legendary brand. On this page you will find all the latest news about Bugatti, so that you won't miss any of its new projects.

The history of the brand and its flagship models

"Art, form, technique". This is the motto of Bugatti, which sees each of its models as a new challenge in terms of both performance and design. And it must be said that the challenge is met every time, to the delight of lovers of beautiful, powerful cars.

Bugatti's history includes motor racing, with models that have left their mark on the world of sports, such as the Type 35. But the brand is also present in the leisure vehicle sector, positioning itself in the niche of excellence and rarity. For example, only 450 Bugatti Veyrons were ever produced. This model itself is iconic with its two world speed records (in 2013 and in 2013).

Since 2016, another model has been produced by the French carmaker, a Volkswagen subsidiary since 1998: the Bugatti Chiron, which offers unique performance in the luxury car world. Its engine develops 1,500 horsepower, which is enormous for a mass-produced car. This supercar represents the top of the line in this category. For even more handling and dynamic driving, a sport version of the Bugatti Chiron has been on the market since 2018. The production of these two models is capped at 500 units, which may not seem like much. But this is a significant number compared to the number of copies planned for the next supersport car of the brand: the Bugatti Divo, which will be produced in only 50 units for a sales price of 5 million euros. All of them have already been sold.

Bugatti : a french brand of luxury cars

Bugatti was founded by Ettore Bugatti in 1909. He soon entered cars in races, first in the small car category, the ancestor of the F2 and F3, and then in the Grand Prix category, the ancestor of the F1. In 1925, Meo Constantini won the Targa Florio, a prestigious race at the time. In 1926, Bugatti won the European Grand Prix manufacturers' title.

Bugatti hired the Monegasque driver Louis Chiron, who was to become one of Bugatti's most successful Grand Prix drivers before the war. Bugatti won numerous Grand Prix races, but faced fierce competition from the Italians from Alfa Romeo, and later from the Germans from Mercedes and Auto-Union (Audi).

After the war, Bugatti resumed competition in the new categories, first in F2 and then in F1. From 1948 onwards, Bugatti cars were rare on the racetrack. It was not until 1956 that Bugatti returned to F1 racing. Maurice Trintignant, who had driven for Bugatti between 1946 and 1948, was back behind the wheel. The car was not born well. It was not a success and Bugatti left F1 after this fiasco. Bugatti did not regain its pre-war level, despite a few podiums between 1946 and 1948.

As the French automotive news website guide-auto.com reminds us, the French brand was bought by the Swiss Hispano-Suiza in 1963, and the brand produced more than 8,000 prestigious sports cars. At the end of the 1980s, Bugatti's owner wanted to compete even more with Ferrari and Lamborghini, and the car was officially released in 1991 as the V12-powered Bugatti EB110 for the 110th anniversary of the birth of its founder Ettore Bugatti. It was entered by the Michel Hommell Group team in the 62nd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This was the last official appearance of a Bugatti in a major event or championship.

The brand was then bought by the Volkswagen group in 1998, the German group continues the production of road sports cars like the Veyron or in 2016 the Chiron.
